Gas or Electric Heating

Choosing whether to have gas or electric heating at home is a decision that will have a long-term effect on your energy cost as well as the comfort and safety of the household members. To arrive at the best decision, following are some factors to consider about the two heating systems.

Cost – In terms of installation, electric heating would generally cost less than the gas heating system. However, in terms of fuel usage, gas would cost less. So in the long run, the gas heating system would cost less.

Safety - Electric heaters require some distance from other household items to reduce the risk of fire. But they have a lower potential to explode than a gas heater. On the other hand, gas heaters need to have sufficient ventilation to remove or reduce the level of dangerous combustion gases like carbon monoxide in the air.

Home Value - You never know when you need to sell your home. Most home buyers find gas heating to be a more attractive feature because as the system is already installed, they are more interested on the cost of heating fuel.
